Social networking is an integral part of the internet and started out to bring people together. The primary idea behind social networking was to help people to make friends across the world and to find batch mates and old friends and catch up with them.

There are many people who ask why social networking? Before we understand why social networking should be used let us check some statistics:
48% of the teenagers visit the top 10 social networking websites on a daily basis and some of them visit it more often. 26% of the teenagers visit social networking websites once in a day while 22% of them visit multiple times in a day. • 55% of boys and girls have an online personal profile out of which 55% have a profile in popular social networking websites like Facebook or MySpace. • 91% of teenagers in all the social networking websites use the platform to stay in touch with their friends and 49% of the boys and girls use it to make new friends.
The truth is that social networking has been more than a place to find friends and make friends. People share their feelings, romance, flirt and even have virtual dates in social networks.

How beneficial is social networking?
In the last couple of years, several social networking websites have grown from niche activity to mainstream activities including e-commerce that has engaged millions of internet users. As of date almost 55% of American youths aged between 12 and 17 are using social networking websites. A social networking website provides the perfect platform for sharing of ideas and capturing valuable information, publishing links regarding educational technology, nonprofit technology, adoption challenges, visual thinking, information design, creativity, and much more.
